What is Agozar?

Our Mission

"A gozar" means "to enjoy!"

"Why is it called Agozar? It's simple, having taught Salsa dancing for over 24 years, I felt I needed a name that encapsulated not only the dance but the reason why I continue to teach it all these years later, it’s just so much fun!"

At Agozar, we believe Salsa is more than just a dance, it’s a language of connection, rhythm, and freedom. It’s also a great way to make new friends, keep fit and de-stress after a day of work!

Rooted in the rich system of New York Style Salsa On2, Agozar is dedicated to sharing the joy, energy, and passion of Salsa with Hong Kong through our classes and social dance events.

Guided by our philosophy of Conexión, Ritmo, Bailar, Libertad, we teach dancers not only how to move but how to feel. Connecting with partners, understanding the heartbeat of the music, flowing effortlessly on the dance floor, and ultimately experiencing true freedom in dance where movement becomes instinct and pure expression.

Our instructors, trained by company director Alexandre Amoroso, bring precision, patience, and passion to every class, offering expert guidance in partner work, open work, musicality, spinning technique, and body movement.

Beyond the studio, Agozar is committed to building a thriving Salsa community in Hong Kong, organising electrifying social dance events that bring people together through the universal language of movement and music.

Our mission is simple: to ignite a love for Salsa in every dancer, from absolute beginners to seasoned dancers, and to make Hong Kong a global hotspot for Salsa culture.

Alexandre Amoroso

Director | Choreographer | Instructor

A thirst for knowledge has driven Alexandre in all spheres of his life—salsa is no exception. Having graduated from law school and seeking a new challenge beyond his practice of martial arts, Alexandre embarked on his dance journey in 2001. He began training at the Hampstead School of Latin Dance and quickly immersed himself in the burgeoning London salsa scene, learning from some of the most notable pioneers, including the Tropicana and Salsoteca dance schools.

In 2004, an invitation to form the Diablo Dance Company (European Salsa Slam 2005 and 2006 champions) under the direction of Laith Sami catapulted Alexandre onto the performance circuit. As one of the founding members, he toured the UK for over a year, appearing on national television and gaining invaluable stage experience.

Alexandre’s precise and technically explicit teaching style quickly earned him recognition in London’s salsa community. His emphasis on crisp, clear leading and smooth, inventive moves—delivered with patience, humour, and a meticulous eye for detail—made him a sought-after instructor. He became a regular teacher for top London dance organisations, including MamboCity, Simply Salsa, SOS, Salsa UK, and Salsoteca. He was also invited to teach at major salsa congresses both in the UK and internationally.

In late 2007, Alexandre relocated to Hong Kong with a mission: to raise the city’s salsa standards and introduce New York Style On2 Salsa. By the end of 2008, Hong Kong had a strong base of On2 dancers, with more people expressing themselves through rhythm, body movement, and shines. His influence on the scene was widely recognised, and he was voted Best Male Instructor of 2008.

Since then, Alexandre has made a profound impact on the Hong Kong dance scene. He founded a dance studio offering classes seven days a week, working with a pool of talented instructors covering multiple dance and wellness disciplines, including salsa, ballet, zumba, bollywood, reggaeton, stretch & conditioning, swing, tango, hip hop, and contemporary dance. He also choreographed four student salsa teams and played a pivotal role in organising major salsa events in the city.

One of his most significant contributions was launching and running Salsa Fiesta at Volar, a weekly Tuesday party that became Hong Kong’s longest-running salsa event, spanning an impressive 10 years. He also created Casa De La Salsa in 2010, which consistently attracted over 200 dancers per night. Before the pandemic, Alexandre was organising five salsa parties every week, creating a vibrant and thriving community.

In 2013, he organised and choreographed a performance featuring over 70 salsa dancers at the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade. The event was televised live to millions worldwide, further solidifying Hong Kong’s presence in the international salsa scene.

Additionally, between 2008 and 2017, Alexandre developed a solid teacher training program and successfully trained students to become instructors, helping to expand the pool of skilled salsa teachers in Hong Kong. He also trained three DJs, further enriching the local salsa scene with high-quality music and atmosphere.

Like many dance communities around the world, Hong Kong’s salsa scene was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a significant loss of dancers and teachers. Events dwindled to just one party a month in 2023. However, through determination and resilience, Alexandre has been instrumental in the community’s revival. By 2024, events increased to bi-weekly, and by 2025, they returned to a weekly schedule.

In 2025, Alexandre launched Agozar Dance Company with a renewed vision: to rebuild and reinvigorate the Hong Kong salsa community, making it a must-visit destination for dancers across Asia once again. With his deep passion for teaching, commitment to excellence, and unyielding drive, Alexandre continues to shape the future of salsa in Hong Kong.

Sasha Dulina

Choreographer | Instructor

Having always been passionate about dancing and teaching, Sasha was lucky to be trained in a variety of dance styles since she was four. Starting with Ballet, rhythmic gymnastics and folk dance she quickly chose Latin and Standard Ballroom as her main focus. For 10 years, she performed and competed both with her dance partner and in a team, and began teaching and choreographing at the age of 14.

None of the styles however resonated with her as much as Salsa which she came across after moving to Hong Kong and starting training with DANCETRINITY in 2010. Endless possibilities for partner connection, musical interpretation and personal expression which require solid technical foundation and body awareness was what inspired her to return to dancing after a career in linguistics and language teaching. Encouraged by Alexandre Amoroso, Sasha joined DANCETRINITY instructor team in 2013 striving to share the joy of dancing with students.

Alessio Savona

Instructor

Alessio’s first encounter with salsa dancing happened after moving to Hong Kong in 2010. What started as a hobby and a way to meet new friends soon turned into a strong passion and a desire to learn and improve. Under the guidance of Alexandre Amoroso and his team, Alessio developed into a smooth musical and interpretative dancer.

Hungry for more, Alessio trained in New York City with all the big names of Salsa On2, such as Frankie Martinez, Yamulee, Santo Rico and the Torres family. He is also a regular attendee at festivals all over Asia and has learned from several international artists. Since 2015, he has been part of Alexandre’s team and aims to bring his fun dance style and love for salsa music in his classes.
